Thank you for coming to our BRAND NEW WEBSITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION! 😊
Seeking help is an act of bravery. Kudos to you for being here.
So, “Hi!” Thanks for stopping by.
People say “life is hard” all the time, and they’re not wrong. The challenges in today’s post Covid and politically tumultuous world are, in some ways, more difficult than they’ve been in a long time. For the individual who has trauma activations, anxiety, or grief, even acts of daily living can be overwhelming. The bad news is, we can only do so much to change adverse circumstances beyond our control. The GOOD news is, we can certainly change how we think about things, how we react, and what power we give those thoughts – and THAT can influence and inform our better navigation of circumstances.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) does this, and in so doing, gives power back to the client. I love it for that reason. Seriously, it makes me giddy. When one learns how to challenge, change, and control the way one thinks about things, one can change the behavior and environment. It just makes sense. I don’t for a minute mean to imply it’s easy. Like any new habit, it takes time and commitment. Unhealthy thoughts and behaviors exist for a multitude of reasons, and it’s usually because they started out life as coping mechanisms. They serve us in ways that help shield us from harm, perceived and real. Then, as we age and evolve, they cease to feel as good or protective as they once were, but they’re so ensconced, we can’t seem to stop relying on them.
Your work with me will not include any analysis, just conversation. And, make no mistake, this is a team effort, or what is referred to as, “the therapeutic alliance.”
I work very organically, and I do not diagnose. I don’t want to get bogged down by treating the diagnosis instead of helping the human in front of me.
Warmly,
Natalie
